In this class, we will apply the founding principle of the Reconstructionist movement--reconstructing--to the concept of the Divine, surveying of all the different ways the concept of "G-d" has been understood throughout Jewish time in order to first deconstruct our stale notions of the Divine in order to reconstruct Them anew.

This is part of the “Reconstructing” Series with R’ Faryn.  Each class in "Reconstructing God" builds on the previous class, so please try to come to all classes in this section if you register for this course.  We encourage you to register for "Reconstructing Prayer" and "Reconstructing Israel" as well but it is not a requirement.

Reconstructionism is not a set theology or body of thought, but rather, an ongoing Jewish process of Reconstructing. Therefore, to learn about Reconstructionism we will apply its practice—Reconstructing—to three core Jewish concepts over the course of the year: God, Prayer, and Israel. For each series, we will begin with a survey of all the different ways the concept has been understood throughout Jewish time in order to first deconstruct, and then reconstruct anew.

Masks strongly encouraged.

This event is currently planned to be held in our new building, which requires climbing 21 steps to access. If you are interested in attending this service, and this poses a barrier to entry for you, please reach out to Rabbi Faryn at rabbifaryn@orshalomsf.org with at least 5 days notice, and we will seek a change of venue. For any other access needs, please also reach out to Rabbi Faryn.

Sorry, Registration has ended.
