The Shalom Center: Bay Area Tent of Mourning

Thursday, March 21, 5:30 am – 9:30 pm, 1151 Sixth St, Berkeley

This Ta'anit Esther / Fast of Esther, The Shalom Center is erecting a Tent of Mourning to grieve both Palestinian and Israeli lives lost since and beyond October 7. Inspired by Queen Esther's ritualized grief in the Purim story, this will be a full day of sessions, teachings, and self-directed ritual to support attendees in deepening and expanding their grief. Cosponsored by Or Shalom.

 


 

Purim Upside Down Party

Saturday, March 23 in Miraloma (exact address given upon RSVP)

This Purim, Or Shalom is turning things Upside Down! We’re hosting a new kind of Purim bash with a unique shpiel written and performed by our own congregants! Join us for a night of play, satire, improvisation, subversion, interrogation, and social commentary. All are welcome to join us, regardless of membership! Please RSVP below. To make this event more accessible, KN95 Masks will be provided and required when not eating/drinking.

Schedule:
5:00 – 6:30 pm: Children/Family Programming & Megillah Retelling
6:30 – 7:30 pm: Vegetarian Dinner
7:30 – Late: Adult Shpiel, Programming & Dance Party


 

Family Purim Carnival & Costume Parade

Sunday, March 24, 10:00 am - 12:00 pm at the Bernal Heights Rec Center Playground, 500 Cortland Ave

Join us for a Family Purim Carnival & Costume Parade at the playground and recreation center behind the Bernal Heights Library! There will be carnival games and activities including assembling Mishloach Manot (hamanatashen gift bags) to gift to our local neighbors.

Kids and adults alike, come in your costumes and bring your bicycles, tricycles, roller skates, and skateboards to decorate for our Costume Parade down Cortland Ave! No registration is necessary to attend!

Schedule:
10:00 – 11:15 am: Carnival
11:15 – 11:45 am: Costume Parade
11:45 am – 12:00 pm: Closing
